Newsbin crashes at startup in specific conditions

Started up Newsbin today and selected newsgroups and "Donwload latest headers". Newsbin crashed. Tried next time. Crash again. Tried third time but selected only one newsgroup. Crash again. Started Newsbin up again and decided to wait a little. And announcement window came up soon. And after that no problems anymore. I guess its not really a serious problem but I thought that I let know about it.

I have seen the same thing through multiple iterations of NB.It manifests itself more in slower computers. I have found if you wait for the bottom line to go from English descriptions to numeric definition and then download all headers, it works fine.

I've had it as well it's usually because the computer has been dormant and the hdd have stopped spinning - when they start up and the number on the logging tab resets then you can download the latest headers.

Thanks. It sounds like it's still busy starting up or something. Wonder if you have some big data files like a large download list that it's still loading?

I have nothing in the download list, a few items in wish list.

Someone the other day had a slow startup issue. Turned out it was a massive poster lockout list. Another had a massive "Downloadmarker.db3" file. Might be worth checking both of them. On my machine it takes a couple seconds from visible till it's actually ready to go.

Running 6.72. No posters locked out, DownloadMarker.DB3 is 236kb. It does take a few seconds before its ready to work after starting.

My downloadmarker.db3 file is 36 MB - is that considered large?
The other large files in the data folder are - Signature.db3 45 MB and downloaded.db3 33 MB

Yeah, those aren't large. I believe this users downloadmarker was close to a gig. He was one of those guys who downloads 24x7 on a very fast connection.

I'm puzzling over how to reproduce it. When Newsbin starts, it's in pause mode while it's setting up. Then it unpauses itself when it's ready to go. I've not managed to click it in a way that causes crashes. I guess for some of you the actually start time is significantly longer.

In my case it was like it was something to do with this version upgrade announcement window. It pops up only sometimes and I don't wait every time if it comes up or not. Usually I fire up Newsbin, select groups and do "Donwload latest headers". It goes very quickly usually(I don't have download list and these db3 files are very small. Around 1MB). This time I did like usually but Newsbin just crashed. But if I waited some seconds and Newsbin got its announcement popped up then all was good.
