Missing segments/parts

I've been having problems with missing parts recently. I've discovered that they will downloaded okay when I retry the download. I've not needed to use a backup server to complete posts. I had thought it might be a problem with my (cheap) news service, but it seems others are having a similar problem. Is it possible that NewsBin isn't making enough attempts to download missing parts? I'm using Usenet Bucket, which is as cheap as chips.

What version are you using?

How many retries do you have set?

It could be your news server is late to get parts so, if you use search or NZB files, the posts really aren't there yet. 2 retries which is the default is something like 30-60 seconds of waiting which means if the problem really is that your server is slow to get parts, you might need more retries so it keeps trying until the server gets the parts.

Without looking at it I can only guess.

The max retries was set at 6, I've upped it to 10. Should that be enough? The posts I'm grabbing, using NXBs, are up to a day old. If the post is made with plenty of Pars, it's not really a problem.
