Newsbin Internet Search missing files with short names

Newsbin search seems to miss files that have short names separated by periods (i.e. fil.e.n.ame). The file(s) should be returned because I can find the exact same name using the reqid instead.

And if I search for a longer portion of the file name (i.e. fil.e.n.ame.date), if other files contain date it returns them instead (even if I include the entire filename in quotes). Searching for fil.e.n.ame.date.title (which is less convenient than looking up the reqid) returns no results at all (even if it's correct and available online).

Any ways around this?

P.S. Hopefully this is coherent with the intentionally vague filenames I used lol.

Unfortunately with that posting style, it's not getting indexed the way you are expecting. We use the dot as a delimiter and then we don't index anything less than 3 characters. I'll think about the issue.

Would it be possible to escape the dots with backslashes like you can do with quotes? Idk how that would affect the search function.
