Crashes when Groups update while a queue is processing

Postby Rilly » Mon Mar 14, 2016 10:42 am

Hi,
Has others had this issue where the queue will be processing downloads, and when the auto update of a group kicks in, newsbin will crash completely.. it doesn't write to the logs because it is one of those windows errors that just close it with an appcrash error. When it crashes, it rollsback and starts over the complete queue again as if nothing has been downloaded. I originally thought it was when it was processing the par files, but, I'm not entirely sure.. I do know for sure it is when the auto update kicks in. I've tried watching it, but.. once it crashes, the screen closes and an error pops up.. its difficult to see if the pars are starting.

I'm running an AMD pc, and newsbin support advised that they do not run AMD machines and since nobody else is reporting this issue they are not able to troubleshoot it. I'm not going to go out and buy a new Intel system just for newsbin...

Running version 6.62 now (have tried multiple versions of 6.6) and it has been doing it all along. I thought it was the version and that 6.56 was more stable, but that was because i never used the auto group update functions.. it is only recently in the last 8 months that i've been using that, and frequently (not always) when the group goes to update, it crashes.
I'm running windows 10, but the problem existed under windows 7 as well. It crashes probably about 5 times a day. i've had to disable the auto updates when I'm downloading.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'd install the latest beta and try it. Assuming you're 32 bits and running 32 bit windows, you might want to watch RAM use. If you go over 2G in 32 bit windows, Newsbin will run out of address space and croak. AMD should be the same as intel. "Should" in our experience people using AMD tend to have weird issues.

Funny I picked up 2 of these at a local auction for $15 each. Dual AMD quad cores at 2.8 Ghz. I hadn't considered installing windows...

I should have mentioned that I'm running 64 bit windows and I have 10 GB of ram. I did try the beta when it was beta for 6.62, but I see there is a beta for 6.7 now. I'll give that a try.
