Newsbin won't connect

Postby devoid2 » Fri Jul 17, 2015 12:36 am

Started acting funny a couple of days ago--the opening message of the day says "Navigation too the webpage was canceled"

I installed a new version, and when trying to register it tells me "Can't contact server"

version 6.60

I contacted Giganews, they suggested trying another news reader. Free Agent is working fine.

I've tried disabling the virus checker and firewall, rebooting, and powering off and rebooting the router.

I miss my Newsbin. thanks

Basically something on your PC is blocking Newsbin off the internet. I know you say your security software is turned off but you have all the symptoms.

I'd probably turn it back on and tell it to let Newsbin onto the internet.

that computer is in trouble, nuke and pave coming soon. I just installed Newbin on another laptop and when I ask it to show the posts they appear for a split second and then are gone. Any ideas on how to show them?

Clear out the global filter profile. it's probably filtering out the posts.

I've set the filters to "none" but they don't stay--they keep resetting to 0 kb. What am I missing here? Doesn't the "ok" button save the filter?

1 - Click the funnel button on the toolbar. Select "Global" make sure there's nothing list and if there is remove it.

2 - What's your "storage age" set to? Someone else had similar symptoms and had it set to zero which essentially threw away all the newly downloaded headers.

1 - What's the "Storage Age" setting?

2 - Remove the "show filenames" setting.

3 - Remove the 10 gig size limiter. Set it to 0 which means disabled. If that doesn't work, we'll delete the filters db.

This is how you delete the filters DB.

4 - In the options select "Open Data Folder". Exit Newsbin. From the new folder. Delete or move "Filters.db3" and "PosterLockout.txt". Restart and try again.

followed your instructions, filter profile window is now completely empty of data.

in "Settings", storage age is 5000.

still same results--

thanks for staying on this

You might load a group, click the green power button then reset each of the controls that becomes active to "None".

If that doesn't work, it might be time to re-install from scratch. I'm at the "I don't know" stage. Clearly the data is there and it's being filtered out. It's apparently not a filter profile.
