Video files renamed to abc.mkv/123.mkv/b00bs.mkv etc

Postby Head2k3 » Fri Apr 10, 2015 2:24 pm

Been having problems with Video files being renamed to abc.mkv/123.mkv/b00bs.mkv etc I know using sabnzbd you can enable sorting and use sort string "%dn" to name the file.mkv to the nzb name and I know that nzbget has an option to rename automatically to the nzb name but I cannot find anything similar in newsbin pro. I'm running 6.60B8 on windows vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So from a list of files you can select one and say "Name for the NZB File"? I'm just wondering how it works in practice.

In all honesty it's not something iv actually tried and tested but after reading through different forum posts today I came across those solutions.

"For SABnzbd users:
enable sorting in sab, use sort string "%dn" to name the file.mkv to the nzb name

For NZBget users:
use the videosort script: http://nzbget.net/VideoSort
it has various renaming options, and also has support for the use of the DNZB info from nzbs.in (option DNZB headers) and has an option to rename automatically to the nzb name (option PreferNZBName)"

Yeah, I imagine you don't want it renaming 100% of the time. That's why I wondered how you selected. I imagine if you use the sickbeard interface into Newsbin that SB would rename them for you too.

I'll think about it. I know some of these funky formats would work better that way. Newsbin can execute a script "post unrar". Wonder if that would be a good place to do it?

yea i noticed in a different thread that you had mentioned that you can use some of the sabnzbd scripts in newsbin post unrar but Im not massively confident when I comes to scripts an was a bit out of my depth lol. Sickbeards post processing may do the job but I don't like t way it sorts files after they have been processed (into individual season folders) and although I do love the way the new SB/newsbin interface works unfortunately I can't leave newsbin running all the time so I have to use the black hole method or I miss releases. I did also wonder if there was anyway Sickbeard could black hole nzb files when newsbin wasn't running but il have to bring that up on the SB forums.

"Black Hole" mode just means "dump into a folder". It shouldn't matter is Newsbin is running or not. The NZB's should just collect there. When you start Newsbin, it should pick up the NZB's. If not, you just need to configure Newsbin to look in the folder for the NZB files.

Yea sorry I didn't explain that very well. I meant if I configure the new sickbeard/newsbin interface then all works well as long as newsbin is running if it's not then sickbeard throws up an error message when it try's to grab an nzb to say that newsbin couldn't be contacted an loading the nzb failed. Where as ideally if newsbin isn't running I'd prefer sickbeard to Blackhole the nzb to the watch folder so it could be loaded the next time I start newsbin.

Why not just leave Newsbin running? You can give it a password and lock it minimized.

I'm currently running an old(ish) system an leaving newsbin running causes mkv's im watching to stutter/freeze when it's unpacking and repairing new downloads. I'm in the process of saving for my new system so hopefully this won't be an issue for too long.
