Newsbin Deleting Downloaded Files?

I had to re-install Newsbin due to a hard drive failure and since then Newsbin has been deleting previously downloaded files. Here's the scoop:

Day 1: Download headers, select a few files to download, and wait for them to complete. All is well.

Day 2: Download more headers, a few more files, and all is well.

Day 3: Open Newsbin and a bunch of the previously downloaded files disappear!

I first wondered where the files went, so I did controlled tests. I watched the files when downloading new headers finished. Nothing gone. I watched when a download list finished, nothing gone. I closed NewsBin, nothing gone. I opened Newsbin and poof, files disappeared from the download folder before my very eyes.

Any helpful hints would be appreciated.

What version are you using?

What's your download folder set to?

Did they actually vanish from disk or just the files list?

The only place Newsbin consistently deletes files from is in the data folder. If your download folder isn't in the data folder it shouldn't be deleting anything.

I have an explicit "Main Download folder:" in the Options / Setup tab.

I do NOT have the "Download folder for downloads from NZB Files:" checked, although it's (disabled) path is the same explicit path with "\$(NZBFILE)\" appended at the end.

I have the same download path specified for the group via the "Use Download Path" checkbox in the Group Properties.

The files disappear from the downloads folder itself (Windows Explorer view). They are also not shown in the Files List window in NewsBin, but this is the first time I've checked there. I'll monitor both as time goes on.

Where would I find the "Data" folder setting to make sure that I have my downloads different than the data?

In the options you pick "Open Data Folder". It'll take you there.

You're the only one reporting this so, I expect it to be something strange. I'm not 100% convinced it's Newsbin doing the delete. You might want to install "procmon" and monitor that folder. You might look in the virus scanner and see if it's moved these files somewhere.

Ok, the data folder is D:\newsbin and my download folder is D:\newsbin\temp (don't ask). This time I made a subfolder called "Safe" under temp and the files disappeared from both temp and Safe and the Safe folder itself was also deleted!

I'll download some more files (the folder is empty now) and then close Newsbin completely for a day or two and see if the files disappear. Then I'll open Newsbin and keep monitoring and looking for some consistency.

Well, there's your problem. I'd suggest not downloading anywhere in the data folder. "D:\Download\" would be better. I consider the data folder to be owned by Newsbin so, I do cleanup as I see fit. It's probably not a good idea to put other files in there.

That's likely the explanation then. On my previous install, the data directory was on C: and the downloads were on D:. On the new install, I put Newsbin into D:\newsbin and put the downloads under that directory just to keep it all in one tree.

I'll get it moved and see if the problem quits happening.

Yeah, particularly the temp folder. It gets wiped on restart and periodically while Newsbin is running.
