"CTRL" selection getting locked?

Tried searching for this issue, but could not find anything similar.
Using V6.55 build 3334

I have a group that every once in a while, it acts like the "ctrl" key is being held down on and auto-selects items.

I've been able to reproduce this by holding Shift, multi-selecting items, then scrolling around (but it's still inconsistent).
What happens in the end, is that it "locks" on one point and when I click to someplace else, it highlight everything between those points.

Anyone else see this or know how to get it to stop?
The only way I can do it is to close the group and then re-open it (reloading all headers), but that is getting to be a pain.

I believe it's a windows issue.

Try holding one or both of the mouse buttons down and hitting "Escape". I believe this will unlock this.

Is this Windows 8?
