Newsbin process not terminating after exit

I do believe this has started after upgrading from latest beta version to 6.55 version (64bit). I download a bunch of files, and when finished, I exit Newsbin by clicking on the X in upper right corner. After a few minutes, I almost can't do nothing with my PC. I go to Task Manager and see that NewsbinPro64.exe is not only still running but using close to 500,000 Kb of memory ! I'm kind of surprised to be the first user reporting this problem. :(

You have to put your key into the control panel I believe. That's what tells the forum that you have a Newsbin key.

How much do you have in your download list? How many files?

114 files.

On exit. Newsbin sets the order on the download, wish and Failed list. I wonder if your downloads.db3 file is corrupt?

How much do you have in failed and wish? They're basically all the same list. Stored in the same file. The combined number, downloads, failed, wish is what I should have asked for.

189 files.

Might want to wipe the downloads and downloaded.db3 and see if the symptoms change. The fact it bogs your PC down, which I've never seen, suggests it's something unexpected.

O.K. I'll try that. If I don't come back to this thread, it will mean the problem has been solved.
Thank you very much for your usual prompt service.

Unfortunately, problem not solved.
This time, I noticed the memory usage go way up while I was downloading (svchost mainly according to Task Manager).
When downloads and unrar were over, I closed Newsbin by going to File then Exit.
Memory usage went way down ... but started to rise again almost immediately.
I went to Task Manager, and the Newsbin process was still running, taking 25% of the processor, and memory for the process was rising by 25000Kb per second. Until I forced it to shutdown.

One thing I have not mentionned yet (not sure if it's important or not), but I do move the files to another folder before closing Newsbin.

So ... I still have the same problem :?:

I am not 100% sure about that yet, but it seems to do this only when I (try to) close Newsbin immediately after moving the files to another folder (using "Move File(s)..." in Newsbin).

Do you wait till it's done?

Well, the "Download Path" for these files seems to change immediately after I click on "Move File(s) ...". So I would say yes based on that, but maybe I can try to wait like a minute before closing down Newsbin.

I still have the same problem from time to time.
Just a few minutes ago, I moved some files, and then I kept Newsbin opened for at least an hour (doing nothing).
Then I closed it down, but Newsbin process did not terminate and my memory started to rise very fast again.

(svchost mainly according to Task Manager).

Newsbin doesn't actually use svchost for anything. It suggests something else is using this RAM. I had 7000 items in my files lists and moved them all to a different folder using windows Explorer. Newsbin just exited normally. I'm assuming you're using Windows to move the files and not Newsbin. It's not really clear though.

I've been trying to reproduce it in 6.60. I moved a bunch of files in explorer then restarted. Then I moved a bunch of files in Newsbin's files list and restarted. I haven't managed to trigger it yet. The Svchost thing makes me wonder if it's security software working hard after the move.

Quade, the svchost thing happened just one time. And it was while I was downloading with Newsbin. Sorry if I created some confusion.

I have a memory indicator in my tray. If I shut down Newsbin and the memory indicator is rising and rising, I go to task manager and what I see is the Newsbin process still active, and it is the memory of the Newsbin process that is rising tremendously. It would freeze up my PC in a very short time if I did not shut it down via task manager.

You might want to delete the downloadsV2.db3 in the data folder. It's really the only thing that gets written too when you exit (to set the file status and download order). This will wipe the download, failed and wish lists. I might delete downloads.db3 too while you're there.

If you start Newsbin, in the options pick "Open Data Folder". Then exit Newsbin, the newly opened folder is where the download database it.

I do not see a downloadsV2.db3 file in the data folder.

Yeah, 6.55 uses "downloads.db3". Kill that one instead. The other file is for 6.60.

Purging the downloads.db3 file seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks. :D
