Windows 7 64 bit / nb654RC1

Newsbin crashes immediately, just when starting to load headers? Did a system restore to a week prior to the problem, no change. No virus's or malware. Was running fine (nb654RC1) on Tuesday, problem started Wednesday upon opening Newsbin. Help appreciated, Bob

I'd find the data folder. Search for "Newsbin.nbi" if you can't find it. Then in the data folder you should see a number of DB3 files. I'd move them out of the data folder one at a time. Starting with "Downloads.db3" and see what happens.

I assume you mean it's crashing when loading the download list on startup.

6.54 final is out. It has a newer version of the database engine, sqlite, in it. Might be worth upgrading to that. You'll still need to apply the fix Quade mentioned though. The newer version may help prevent this from happening again.

Yes, crashing when loading the download list at startup. Found data folder, removed DB3 files one at a time, still crashing. Installed 6.54 no change.

Ok, Rename the "import" folder in the data folder to "import.old". Then try starting it. Something's corrupt in the data folder.

Renamed to Import.old, no improvement

We're getting pretty close to "I don't know" then. Worse comes to worse, you'll have to re-install.

You have a corrupt file, that's a given. It's just a matter of finding the right one. I'd move all DB3 files out of the data folder in one go and try again. If that doesn't work it might be re-install
time.

Downloads.db3
Downloaded.db3
AutoPar2.db3
DownloadMarker.db3
Filters.db3
Signature.db3

You could try renaming the spool_v6 folder too (though that's a long shot).

Thanks! How can I choose what drive to install Newsbin on?

If you are uninstalling and re-installing, the installer will prompt you for paths to use for the program files, data folder, and download folder. These should be three different folders but can be on the same drive. Typically you'll want your data and download folders on the drive with the most available space. It's also best to use local drives on rotating media. If you use external drives, it could impact download speeds.

If Newsbin is already installed and you want to move the data folder location (which is where header files and the working databases are kept) you can follow this procedure to move the Newsbin Data Folder location.

Quade & Dexter - Thanks for the help!

I started using Newsbin about 8 year's ago, so this was a great opportunity to start from scratch again. Up and running now with newly installed Newsbin, working great, and it is fast, fast, fast Image link not allowed for unregistered users Thank you again for your consistently excellent support - Best, Bob
