Post from two different Usenet Providers

Postby eclapwannabe » Sat Aug 16, 2014 2:56 pm

I am not sure if NBP is "seeing" all the post. Both Usenet Providers have about equal days of retention.
I want to use Thecubenet as a fill in server. I have increased the download age and display age because
thecubenet post are actually there( as I told Quaade recently).

NBP is acting as though it is only seeing the post off of SN and ignoring the post from thecubenet. I know
in the age range Apr 2010 until April 2013 SN has maybe 15% of those post that are actually on there server. But I know that they are there available to be downloaded because X-news is picking them up and delivering the post nicely.

If I understand NBP correctly I do not need to download the headers from thecubenet because this would eat up hd space. Then I would be using thecubenet as a filler server. But for some reason when I try to download the post they are not coming through.

What's "not there"? You don't see them or they come up 430 errors when you try to download them?

- If you don't see them, you need to download headers.

You had a shortish "storage age" shorter than your new server's retention. That means the only posts have you have on disk are the ones within the "Storage Age". Which means if you want to see older posts you have to download headers. I explained that in your last post on this topic.

If the files are within the "storage age" range (the old range, not the new one you set) and you don't see them, this suggests you missed them the first time you downloaded headers.

- If the problem is 430's on both servers then neither server has the posts.

It's not clear what you're trying to download.

If you download headers from both servers, you end up with a single combined list of headers in one DB. You don't use 2 times the disk space if you have 2 servers.

I think I know what the problem is.

I am getting the following error message

[06:18:22] ERROR Error: Unable to Convert Server Name to Internet Address: thecubenet.com Port:119 11004 The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found.

Okay I think I have it now.

It helps to input the correct URL for the server you are trying to access.

I chose to include the headers from new server and it works. wahoo

thanks
