speed limiter stopping downloads

I have newest non beta. this has been happening though for about a month when I had older version as well and did not arise from changing versions.

I have astra.

scheduler is off.

I get 502's but I always have and this business of speed limiter not working is new

I have a 3mps connection. If I set to 97Kbps or 10Bbps or anything with speed limiter engadged above or below my actual pipe width, I get a few seconds of download and then it starts dropping to zero.

Is this seen from a specific bug/issue setting? what should I check?

I decided to troubleshot my 502s. I had three ssl servers US-astra. astra and eu astra all at 10 connections which was 30, and maximum is 20, so I set at 7,7,4 (and 2 for my block which seems to be stra provided as well). I reset my astra password for the first time in five years as well. reset my dsl ip, router, pc restart, newsbin restart, no 502s anymore

but I still have the problem with any use of speed limiter killing my connection. I get my full 3Mbps when lmiter is of, but as soon as I evoke it at any speed (including above my max of 3Mbps), the speed dives. It blips up every few minutes and dives again. nothing on log except:
[12:08:46] HIGH PAR Pausing: Enabled
[12:08:46] HIGH Par2Repair - Multi-core 1.5
[12:08:46] HIGH MessageId Filter: Disabled
[12:08:46] HIGH FileType Version: 2.01

Again limiter was working fine and I was using it with scheduler and I love it since we are multiuser household. but I notice the last few weeks, setting it all day at 1.5 mbps all day long is only resulting in 1 to 0.5 gig per day.

isp throttle? I cant imagine since with newsbin limiter off I get the full 3mpbs continuous.
astra throttle? also doubtful unless there is an issue with limiter affecting astra

I'd probably just use 2 connections to astra US and 2 connections to Astra EU. You can't go faster than 3 Mbps so, using a bunch of connections is probably counter-productive. Honestly you ought to be able to do 3 Mbps with 1-2 connections. If you only use a couple connections, you might find you don't even need the speed limiter because it shares the line much better.

How about trying a couple connections with the BW limiter on and see what happens?

thanks I will try 1 connection on each as first troubleshooing and get back in about a day.

of note though I had not changed it before this happened. I have been getting BOTH 3mps with 10+10+10 on all three astra ssl servers, and getting accurate speed limiter with those settings; but all this all started suddenly a few weeks ago without me changing those settings.

You're basically driving with one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake. You're using more connections than I do on my 100 Mbps line. Since you only have a 3 Mbps connection you will dominate that connection with 30 connections to the server so, nobody else will be able to use the internet at the same time. If you then try to use the BW limiter you're stepping in the brake when it would actually be more efficient across the board to let off the gas pedal a little. There is zero benefit and numerous downsides to running a bunch of connections on a slow DSL line.

That's above and beyond the limiter thing though. There's no real way for me to know what's going on with your systems. Maybe some security software update is getting in the way of the limiter. If nothing changed and it just stopped working, it suggest some external factor.

I never had a problem with it with those settings before. I had scheduler since it was integrated into your software and an external scheduler that was recommended on this forum before you put one into newsbin.

My habit has been to run scheduler at full speed from 1 am to 7 am, at paused from 7am to 9am and 6pm to 1 am and weekend days (when we might be usingn Netflix), and 1mpbs limited from 9am to 6mp weekdays when I was out but my wife was using the net for work from home

That worked perfectly until a month ago, when all of a sudden any invocation of limiter (manual or through scheduler) at any limiter speed, resulted in zero downloaded while limiter was on.

So I have changed to 1,1,1,1 (ssl as, ssl as eu, ssl as us, and my block) connections last night overnight with limiter set (no use of scheduler) to 2mps and about 10mb downloaded allnight. when I turned off limiter I immediately got 3mps indicated and real. During the day today I set it at 2,2,2,2 and same symptom.

I appreciate you deal with many different configs, user specs, routers, router settings, usnet providers, and antivirus*/firewalls* in users. It is just that I have not changed anything before the onset of this issue.

anyway if you do come up with anything, inducing anything to try and report, please do let me know, this feature was very important to me because of my limited bandwidth.

*One of the first troubleshoot I did was turn off "bitdefender for windows 8" this made no differnce

Most PC's get weekly updates so, nothing stays the same. People seem to forget that their software typically updates itself without any intervention. That's why saying:

It is just that I have not changed anything before the onset of this issue.

Is typically not true. Unless you actually disabled all updating on your PC. It's changing every week. Newsbin doesn't auto-update. So, I think it's safe to say that your PC changed and that's why Newsbin's limiter stopped working. Not assigning blame, just being realistic about what the problem likely is. Security software typically auto-updates too.

I have the security off and tried a clean install. I still have this issue.

It is maddening since it worked with no problem for so long. With my 3mb I like to leave newsbin pro "sipping" at 1.5mb of my connection during the day and this is not working anymore.

Any idea on what to trouble shoot on my end?
