Full Auto Download ??

Postby andy » Wed Jun 18, 2014 7:38 am

No complaints ●●● P r a i s e ●●●
All the RAR/PAR features work smoother with each rev (Duh — maybe that's me, not getting my fingers stuck ijn tjhe ketboard.)
Sometimes a download gets stuck because it grabs the smallest (index?) Par and proceeds to try for the huge download and gets stuck because of a few incompletes. Say, two big Rar files have errors that "retries" can't find.
1— I manually tell it to download all of the other Pars.
2 — Then I manually tell it to "Assemble Incompletes"
...and usually that does the trick, and the code magicians finish capturing my classic discography, old WW2 training film, or nature movie.
QUESTION — can I tweak the options to bully through what I did manually, and finish the download without (my possibly error-filled) manual operations.
Automation, pure and simple, wall-to-wall, no operator needed.
Hold the machine above the hole and pull the trigger.
Nice.

How many retries do you have set in the options? It's supposed to run through the retries, then assemble and download rars on it's own. This is gated by the number of retries. The default is 2.

I have retries set to 500. Maybe it's too fast for Giganews sometimes. Mostly retries set this high always gets whats gettable. I have two 100mbit channels primary throughput (DNL) on cable, and at your suggestion have set 8 connections to the server.

How can I force all PARS to download?

I think a retries value that high will effectively never complete! Quade has said that the intervals between retries gets progressively longer so if you want Newsbin to work unattended for assembling incompletes you need a much lower value.

Yeah. 500 means "never". Set it back to 2, restart and see what happens. It won't assemble, even with retries, till it's got at least 90% of the file anyway.

OK, thanks itimpi and Quade. I'll run these new settings and see how they work on the diversity of screwed-up posts I find while giggin' the news.
