Newsbin 6.50 upgrade installs to new directory / drive ?

Running the new 6.50 installer performs the upgrade but not to the current installation directory.

I keep programs installed on D: (D:\programs\newbin_pro). Windows 7 64-bit is installed on C:\.

The current install directory was targeted by every version in the series from early v. 5.x through v. 6.42.

Why does the 64-bit installer for v. 6.50 report that a previous version has been detected and then proceed to install into C:\Program Files\Newsbin ?

This may not be earth-shattering but it is annoying. It seems that an installed should report WHERE it has found the current installation and reveal WHERE it will install the upgraded files, permitting me to choose the correct location, as necessary.

[btw, I moved the installed files from C:\Program Files\Newsbin to D:\programs\newbin_pro and, so far, everything works fine. The behavior is still annoying.]

So, you told it to install to this other folder and it ignored you? Or it just installed with no prompting and automatically picked the correct install folder for Windows 64?

The installer checks a registry entry for the location of the Newsbin program files. If you ever performed a default install, then manually moved the files to another folder, the installer is unaware of this.

To get it to pick up the current installation folder, modify the windows registry key HKCU\Software\DJI Interprises\Newsbin50\Settings\InstallDir to point to the correct folder.

Quade :

No, I did not tell it to install to the correct subdirectory or any subdirectory as it did not 'ask' nor did it provide the option. The install went into the C:\Program Files\Newsbin directory without any prompt to correct the location.

Dexter :

I have never performed a default install. I ALWAYS install programs to a D:\programs\subdirectory. As I stated this update behavior is quite different that what I have experienced in prior updates ... all of those have gone - as they should have - into the D:\programs\newsbin_pro directory.

I have located and modified the directory key you specified. With luck, this will work with the next update.

Thanks for your suggestions! Keep up the good work!!
