Bug with filters in 6.5?

I wrote about this during the 6.5beta but I didn't understand exactly what was happening. What I saw was that upon loading up a newsgroup and downloading the new headers the appropriate posts were being displayed. When doing a second download of new headers (while still keeping the group tab opened) many more (older) posts were being displayed.

What looks to be happening is that on the second download of headers (while keeping the newsgroup tab open) the Display Age is used (so if you had a Display Age of 20 days then you get all the posts from the last 20 days displayed.) The first time you load up a group only the filter is being used (so if your filter is 12 hours then only posts made in the last 12 hours are displayed.)

Previous to this version the filter overrode what was displayed. So you could have an option set with the Display Age at 20 days and a filter of 12 hours and only see posts made in the last 12 hours hours no matter how many times you reloaded headers. You had to change the filter to see those other posts. I preferred this approach as it gave me finer control of what was displayed without having to go change the display options.

Was this change intentional and can we get the old behavior back?

Thanks.

I'll see if I can repro it. I think you're saying the time filter displayed in the post list is being ignored when you download new headers and the updated headers are fed in.

In the server options, do you have the "overlap" set to anything?

I did have overlap set to 5000 but I changed that to zero when you mentioned it the other day. The problem still occurs with the release version.

I'm not sure about what the proper names are but the Age filter used to control what was displayed (and over rode the Display Age.) Now the Display Age overrides the Age filter.

Can you be more specific? There are several places age filters can be applied. I just tried in the post list and with Internet Search and they are working in both places for me. Where are they not working?

Perhaps he is referring to the problem I described. That's consistent and shouldn't be any issue in reproducing.

Just set a Display Age in the options of say 20 days with a storage age of 20 days (example)

Then load a group and set the filter Age to 12 hours
Only 12 hours of posts should be displayed

then get new headers for that group again. What should happen is only 12 hours of posts will be displayed along with any new headers. What will happen is that up to 20 days of posts will be displayed because the Display Age overrules the Age.

Yes that's it. NB now ignores age filter. I want to see 12 hours but the filter no longer works!
