Same-O-Same-O Children at the Helm at NBP

I have win8, but bypass the childrens' area and run everything from desktop icons, invoking administrator's level. Actually I am a god. The problem is major. I set the data folder to an external USB HDD, of which I now have 16 each 2 TB size. NOTHING but essential opsys & programs are kept on the system drive, allowing for daily complete drive imaging to the appropriate external HDD.
Newsbin is always run from a desktop icon. Half the time I run it the data folder is started up down in the obnoxious "users" area of the system drive. You know how you've made it difficult to switch to the external HDD and what the hell do I do to merge my giant "downloaded" folder to reduce duplicates.
How do I move my data folder back off the system drive, keeping my loging files in good shape???
