Win 8 install corrupts Nbpro?

Just installed Win8 64 on top of Win7 64. I launch newsbin, the .nbi file is still intact, but all settings are lost and don't appear in newsbinpro. Any ideas? This happens if I launch via the .nbi or the .exe.

You have a folder permissions problem. Wherever you have the data folder pointing, Newsbin can't write to it.

I use the same NBI with Win8 and have no issues but, my data folder is on my X drive so, new windows installs don't impact it.

You might want to move the data folder to some common place.

If I go into .exe properties and enable "run as administrator" then the .nbi loads properly. But I get a UAC prompt every single time "do you want to allow this program" etc. Is there a way to make this and other apps stop prompting UAC permanently, or do I have to disable UAC (I think everyone normally shuts down UAC in all past windows installs).

This just confirms that you have a permissions problem. You need to make sure that the Newsbin download and data folders (and their ontents) have full permission for Newsbin to read/write. The same applies to the Newsbin .nbi file. It is not at all abnormal for a Windows 8pup grade to mess up permissions on a users files.

When you upgraded to Win8, did you change the user account? That would explain why the data folder has permission problems. Running as Administrator is a workaround but the real solution is to either fix the permissions on the current data folder or move the data folder location.

Sounds like it would be easiest to just move the Newsbin Data Folder to a location where you have full read/write access on this user account. The procedure is here.
