Newsbin will no longer load

Postby memphis343 » Thu Aug 15, 2013 9:24 am

When I try to start the program it loads into the task manager but will not load on the screen. Just get nothing.
Here is a list of what was going on leading up to this:

One day I went to use newsbin and it gave me an error and would not load. Can't remember the error but I was using the newest beta. I then installed a non-beta version and it worked fine.

Then because I was having a lot of issues with downloads getting stuck in an infinite retry I read that this was fixed in the new beta so I tried it again. It worked ok until I used the new search function that allowed me to open two search windows at once. I had two windows open and set up some files to download from one of the searches I had open. The thing is that all of the files I chose to download from one of the search windows did not download and instead the program downloaded hundreds of files from the second search window that I had open. I did not want these files so I tried to clear the download window but the downloads just kept coming into the window. I tried to clear it several times and then newsbin just crashed. It shut down and has not started since. I have also tried to re-install the software but still nothing.

If you haven't tried yet, rename the downloads.db3 file in the data directory (where newsbin keeps all it's config and spool files) when you're certain newsbin isn't running. See if that at least starts the program up properly. You might also have a crapload of spools getting inserted, if you download spools, which might be hammering things.
