haven't been on usenet for awhile, tried to download from a group....ZIP.

I double click on group, it loads in download window like it is supposed to. But no files ever show up in group window.

I've tried update all groups, download special etc. nothing.

Any ideas?

Do just one, take a look in the logging pane to see if there's anything useful. Also, if you're updating after a long time Newsbin will need time to parse the spools - look at the bottom of Newsbin that says Cache xxx/xxx: if there's a number after that in brackets, that's how much it's backed up. It will continue to do it after a restart.

Ok, and cache 200/200 no extra numbers, left it over night, nothing.

1 - Nothing in the logging tab?

2 - Do you see the headers download?

3 - What's the storage age set to?

4 - Do you get any warnings when you start it?

1. Logging window..nothing other than this:

[10:22:54] HIGH Par2Repair - Multi-core 1.4

2. Download window shows download occurring 20,000/33,750 after a few minutes, it goes away, just like it worked.

3. storage age set to..... 200 which I believe was default. In a high volume group, 200 days would have something there.

4. None.

20,000 is such a small number that the group is probably effectively empty. If it is just a few group then it could be a problem with the group database file in Newsbin for the affected groups.

However since you seem to be having problems with many groups I guess there is something else going on.

I'd try a couple things.

1 - Set the "Storage Age" to 2000 and try again.

2 - Right click the group "Post Storage/Delete Stored Posts". Then try again.

It's downloading so, ether "storage age" is throwing them away of the header database is broken and needs to be purged (step 2), or you have a filter set to hide the results.

I'd probably try a right click "Download all Headers" too.

The numbers suggest you might be using an old version too.

1. I did change this, although I suspect this will do nothing. I tried downloading with Forte Agent, and I got gazillions of headers. quite a few within the last few days.

2. Did this, will report back when process completes. Currently showing i'm downloading a lot of headers. Filters are set to show all files.

I have tried download all headers, and update all groups. Also download special, and then tried the various options there.

I'm using 6.50B12 build 2874

Headers is all I use so, it works. It's just not working for you. The only question is why.

There's nothing that complicated about the process. Newsbin connects, downloads headers and writes them as GZ files to the "Import" folder in the data folder. So, you can look in there.

Then it imports the GZ files into the group based database files.

Then when you load, it loads out of the database files.

Assuming you're using Vista or newer, I'd exit Newsbin, right click the shortcut that starts it and select "Run as Adminstrator". Then with "Storage Age" set to 2000. "Download all Headers". See if files show up in the import folder. They should show up, then get consumed by the importer. If they show up and get consumed, you can then right click the group and "Show all Posts".
