Password protected posts

I find that newsbin does not always unrar these types of posts, even though the correct PW has been entered. It happens more when I have several movies in my queue. They are almost always from the same site. I am currently using 6.50B8, but it is not new to this release. I can unrar the movies manually w/o an issue.

I just copy / paste the password into newsbin, the same way I would when unraring with 7zip.

I'm not clear how to trouble-shoot it. I would try the latest B9 and see if it still does it.

Any chance the passwords giving you trouble contain spaces?

No. The most recent movie i downloaded still wouldn't unrar in Newsbin, but I can do it manually. Sometimes if I close and then reopen it will. I only had the one password protected movie. It does however contain charters such as +)_ if that makes a difference.

I have a theory that the password dialog itself is causing people problems. Usability problems. I'm going to re-design it.

Cool. Would be nice if we had the option to assign it to specific posts and then it deleted it when it finished unraring.

"Assign to specific posts" is how it works now. If you're not assigning the password then that's probably why it's not working.

If I rightclick on the download and go to Properties I see the password in the "UnRAR Password" field. Yet it does not unrar:

[08:46:06] ERROR UnRAR Failed: Encrypted archive D:\Temp\NewsBin\bla.part001.rar
[08:46:06] ERROR AutoPARPlugin: UnRAR failed: DC815ACD7A599ADA5DC9A301C9ED4FFA
[08:46:06] ERROR AutoPARPlugin: Autopar Block Counts Indicate good files but, RARS are Encrypted: No UnRAR: bla.part137.rar

I think the first version of v6.50 i used was beta 5 and there it worked. It stopped working around beta 8 or 9.

How about trying "right click/assign unrar password".

I'll check out your method which should be working too. Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with your method.

Want to PM me a subject and a password that doesn't work for you? The smaller the file, the better. I'll try testing it here.

I'm still getting the same problems in B11.

I don't see how it "Assign to specific posts". If you have multiple password protected downloads, it simply lists all the passwords in alphabetical order. This also makes it hard to determine which password goes with which post.

The way I would like to see it work would be that each post is assigned its password and then the password is deleted when it is extracted. Currently the way it seems to work is that you simply have a list of passwords and newsbin would need to try each one in order to determine the correct one. You also need to remove the unrar passwords manually.

This is not how it works. Currently, you have to assign the unrar password manually. I imagine that's why it's not working for you. You do need to manually delete old passwords.

I just saw a clever way of figuring out what password to use. Clever and fast. I'm going to implement it in Newsbin.

Just curious to know: what clever way..?
To list both filenames and assigned passwords?

To figure out what password belongs to what set of rars, automatically.
