Restoring NB to a new drive or partition

Say I wish to restore Newsbin on a -new- pc exactly the way it was on the old one, with all the settings, downloaded files info, etc.,
how am I to proceed then?

I think of the following:
copy the entire newsbin folder to the new pc, i.e.
\Newsbin\
\Newsbin\Data\
\Newsbin\Download\

make a copy of the nbi file

Then:
- run Newsbin setup and install into the new manually created Newsbin (likely it will overwrite the .nbi file ...)
- close newsbin
- delete the new nbi file
- rename of the backup nbi to newsbin.nbi

A bit like that?
I know within Newsbin under Options there is a "Load backup configuration and restart", but I am not sure it will work.
That aside, where can I find the backup?

Thanks

Yeah. It's the same as the procedure for moving the data folder.

Then:
- run Newsbin setup and install into the new manually created Newsbin (likely it will overwrite the .nbi file ...)
- close newsbin
- delete the new nbi file
- rename of the backup nbi to newsbin.nbi

I'd delete the last 2 and simply double-click the old NBI to import it. Make sure all the folders in the NBI are current for the new machine. The NBI doesn't have to be in the data folder. You could keep it in a drop-box folder I imagine if you wanted to back it up. It just has to be some folder Newsbin can write to.

You can use the "Load Backup config" on an existing machine but, not a new install. Newsbin keeps some backup copies of the configuration in case it gets wiped.

Many thanks.

The .nbi file is located in the \data\ folder with me.

Over years I have always installed Newbin into the same folder and possibly, resulting in possible duplicate files
in Newsbin-root and Newsbin\data

I guess that files like :
downloads.db3
downloaded.db3
filters.db3
groups.db3
signature.db3

can be deleted.

Well, I wouldn't put the data folder in the install folder. That complicates things. I'd install Newsbin to the normal install folder "Program Files" then make the data folder anything you want it to.

Mixing the two together might mean the data folder could get wiped on an uninstall. You also run into problems like you have now where you're not really sure what the real data folder is.

I prefer to install applications on another drive, not together with Windows. I'd like to keep the Windows partition as clean as possible.
It is a relatively small one. Only a few (small) applications donot allow user to change the installation folder.

The downloads are save in the \Newsbin\Download folder in subfolders named after the group

All I'm, suggesting is that you make them distinct folders.

X:\Newsbin\
X:\NewsbinData\
