App Crash on exit

Postby Tw4T » Fri May 10, 2013 5:31 am

Hi, I am having a problem with the latest versions of NBpro (50B6/50B7) crashing on exit. I have just done a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 and installed Newsbin a fresh as well. I have it registered and all the settings as I have had them from since I can remember. My initial install of B6 kept crashing when I exited the program so I tried a fresh Install of Windows again and installed B7 hoping that the problem would go away. Here are the TWO crash reports I get when I exit the program : -

Windows has now set "Compatibility Settings" to NBpro but I do not want these as it should just work as is. Can you tell from the event log above what the problem is and how to overcome it? I have NEVER had any problems with betas before so I am thinking it maybe a Windows Update that is breaking it ?? Any help would be much appreciated. For now I am going to go back to the last stable version (642). Thanks in advance.

Using a non - English language pack? That could cause this until new ones get compiled for the release. Wasn't aware windows ever pushed compatibility settings on a program, thought that was a user setting, try to get that back to normal. Ensure you've disabled any antivirus or similar nanny applications just to rule them out. Try installing a fresh version and don't use your old configuration, do a little downloading, then quit, see if it still happens. That isolates or eliminates your config from the equation.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have just Installed Win7 x64 with all the current updates; English UK. NOTHING else has been installed apart from Newsbin B7. I have entered my product key to register and only changed the download path in the settings; apart from setting up Giganews server of course. I get an error of incorrect password when I try a Group download or an NZB import and then, bang, it crashes as soon as I hit either the red X or File>Quit. Windows instantly says it has applied "Compatibility settings" and the only way to change these is to go into group policy. So, a Vanilla install ; 3 times, and the same results each time (B5,6,7). I am now going to reinstall afresh again and try the last stable build (642). I am a tad disappointed as I like to keep up to date but alas it looks like I am stuck with 642 for the time being Image link not allowed for unregistered users Many thanks again for reading this far

Wonder if it's still trying to connect?

I'm not sure, it crashes just opening it up and then closing it, without any server access required Image link not allowed for unregistered users

Doesn't happen here so, I wonder if you have corrupt DB3 files in the data folder?

You inferred you tried a completely vanilla setup, using none of your old config or files, assuming you did that... Hmmm yeah, a weird one. I'm still stuck on the strange way windows is behaving, enforcing a compatibility. That suggests a fundamental issue with the binary that was installed.

Apologies if I missed it, but did you try installing the last non-beta release(after completely uninstalling newsbin), fire it up once, then upgrade to the latest beta? It shouldn't matter, but maybe it does...
