Configuration for poor connections

I'm using Newsbin over wifi from great distances (I'm on a boat) and because of this frequently the connection is flaky.
One of the things I notice that happens is as Newsbin can't download a section of one post, it skips it starts downloading another post, etc., etc. Till I end up with bits of pieces of posts, but little overall progress.

Today, I was manually controlling the downloads, pausing everything and never letting more than two posts download simultaneously. This is working a lot better.

Is there a way via the configuration to achieve this sort of behavior?
