Is something Wrong with Giganews

Postby harneyempire » Wed Jan 02, 2013 12:45 am

I'm beginning to see a pattern on Giganews for about a year - post removed even though i see them in Binsearch.

Yenc-PP-A&A seems suspicious. All of Yenc stuff is password protected and requires u to goto a website to open it.
Well, i'm not going there. Looks like a trap to me.

Also Teevee and a few others on giganews used to be bullet proof. Not sure is someone is messing with his stuff. I used to get 100 percent completions from him.
Now if his stuff is older then 20 days i van forget about it.

and What is this password stuff ?

I'm beginning to think giganews is NOT the place to be anymore. Popular Post after 2-4 days old don't work. Something is going on.

Can anyone recommend other newservers - thks

I think you're describing the result of more aggressive automated DMCA take-downs. No server is "bulletproof" and some of the more hotly pursued things disappear within weeks (things like "big bang theory"). It's not really a V6 issue, but luckily newsbin pro enables you to setup alternate fill servers to fall back upon. Buy a bunch of blocks with many different providers, including some in europe, and things might get a bit better for you.

You can avoid MOST, not all, problems by using a cheap backup FILL server that pairs well with your usenet service.

personally, if giganews is your main, then you want a 11 dollar per month Astraweb unlimited account and set it up a FILL SERVER. It will mostly work for you. The pretty colors in Newsbin progress bars will graphically show you which servers are being used for which delayed or missing or corrupt file pieces. Its really neat! So cool. Hurray Astraweb.

There are many web sites that discuss the concept of using backup fill servers, and not exaclty a topic to pin or note here, but fill servers are now supported in most tools. so just knowing you ought to be using a fill server should be most of your clue. No usenet provider associated in any way with USA (giganews) can ignore potential infringement violation notices, and most just auto-kill or auto-corrupt any robo-scanned item reported to them, legally valid or not. Also, no non USA service will willfully repeatedly ignore a targeted claim against a specific well identified item in 2013. For now though, turning on SSL always, and using at least one fill server is probably the solution you seek to damaged or corrupt or missing things, including giganews issues you suspect.

Fill servers mainly though are meant to be used to make accidentally corrupt or accidentally missing files all work fine.

Or buy a 1TB block from AW. That's cheaper, and what I've done.

thanks for the tips about fill servers. I knew this day would come. Might have to use servers overseas.
god only knows how reliable they will be. It's gonna be trail and error for awhile.

oh well. I connected my allies about this and they already closed their giganews accounts and went else where.
I'm not rich and can't afford many fill server accounts.

AW seems the place for a quick fix.
giganews removes posts almost within day or hours and it is only a matter of time before someone issues
them some court order to reveal their accounts/users/us.

I also got an email from giganews that they are setting up servers outside of the USA. Let's see how this works out.
