Download All Headers?

Postby ppan » Thu Dec 20, 2012 8:09 pm

In contrast to "Download Latest", would "Download All Headers" reset everything so that I would loose the "old" (already downloaded) status etc?

You'd lose the "Old" state. You wouldn't lose the "Downloaded State". That's in a different DB file. What are you trying to accomplish?

I am tired of SuperNews runaround answer to the incomplete files (several thousand in a period of 10 days in May 2010). One agent claimed that there was a technical problem that they were working on; another one insists that alll files were DMCA takedowns. Now the consensus is DMCA takedowns.

Thus, I am looking at switching Usenet provider but I am concerned that if I download headers with the new provider, it may mess up the states.

Alternatively, I guess that I could first download the SuperNews headers "Download Latest" before switching. The new provider would then only need supply the binaries to SuperNews headers. This is particularly important in case I go with a Highwinds provider (which have less headers).

BTW, can I backup the downloaded headers?

You're beating a dead horse. It's clear they don't know. I wouldn't expect them to know either.

1 - Every news server has issues. You're just going to trade one set of problems for a different set of problems. I have multiple servers because no server is perfect. Between the two I use, I get mostly everything I want.

2 - You can add another server at any time. You control how many headers the new server adds with "Download Age".

3 - The downloaded headers are just files. Backup the data folder and you backup the headers.
