Password protected postings

Hi, maybe I'm just too stupid to use Newsbin, but in the past it was enough to add a password to the UnRAR Password List and everything was fine. For quite a while I'm experiencing 100% UnRAR-fails because of the lack of a password (UnRAR Failed - Needs Password). My workaround is to start my registered WinRAR and manually UnRAR the files. But that's more than inconvenient. Any ideas what's wrong?
Thx for any hint

There are security settings in options that by default reject passworded rars immediately. You just need to disable that.

The files can be downloaded, it's not a Spam-Filter issue. As I wrote the files cannot be UnRARed although the files are there and the UnRAR-Password is set correctly.

You've always had to assign the rar password "per set". It was never automatic. Seem like you're missing that step.

That's what I do: I rightclick the file, choose define UnRAR password (I use the client with German language support, "UnRAR Password zuweisen"), I'm adding the specific password and click ok. The password then is part of the list, I can see it there. Am I missing a step?
Thx for your support and sorry for bothering you

That should work. I'll test it here. Reading your original post, it sounded like you expected the "assign password" part to be automatic.

I don't want to push, just asking: any news on this?
Cheers,

I was trying to test this today but my news server broke. Once it's fixed I'll be looking.

Got my server working, posted an encrypted rar set to it, then downloaded, assigned a password and it unrared successfully. So, for me anyway, it seems to work.

I can't get password protected files to d/l. Newsbin either won't import the nzb or it does nothing with it. Searching the file name yields no results either.
Using the latest version.

By default it won't download them. Look in the spam filters. You can disable the spam filters if you want.
If you see them in the failed list, and they say they failed because they were encrypted then you'll want to disable the spam filter.

the nzb just disappears. It doesn't get moved to loaded, and there are no error messages.

I'd look at it with wordpad and see if it's any good. Have you tried the "Load NZB" button on the toolbar?

OK. That method works. Good to know Image link not allowed for unregistered users

Autoload loads the same way. I wonder if you have a filter setup that filters the files out before they hit the download list?

Someone on IRC reported that passwords with special chars weren't working properly. I verified that that's the case. If your passwords use special characters, that might explain why they don't work. I put a fix in for the next beta.

Hmm, it's some kind of strange: it didn't work the last weeks, now I tried it again and it worked. So it's whether on my side or in the files.
Thx for your support!

I'm confused here. What is the point of downloading password protected files if you don't know the password? I just downloaded 15 gigs of something before I found out it was password protected and no sign of a password?

Well, I don't. If you're in the right "club" though they give you a password to use.
By default, 6.40/.41 will fail passworded posts. You can always check the first RAR too with WinRAR. It'll tell you if it needs a password or not.
