Trying to install Newsbin to another directory, but it wont

Postby hesteputepop » Mon Nov 12, 2012 3:40 pm

Hi
i have a broken newsbin in the default c:\program files\newsbin

Tried to install diferent versions and full or internet version. They all want to upgrade my broken newsbin folder, i have nowhere in my install a possibility to install somwhere else which is driving me insane atm.

When i say the folder is broken i mean it is corrupt and cannot be used, atm i cant even get chkdsk to fix it since i am using raid0 and when i do a reboot to run the scheduled chkdsk it cannot do a repair.

Is there any command line parameters or anyway i can get the install to not try a upgrade? did delete everything i found in the registery about newsbin but maybe i didnt get it all.

btw i was running version 6.40

How about deleting the folder by hand?

Newsbin looks in the data folder to determine if it's doing a fresh install or not. You could wipe the data folder. It's in "My Documents" or "Users" depending on what version of Windows you're using. Sounds to me like you're need to wipe windows and re-install. If your disks are F'd up, I wouldn't expect any good outcomes.

the folder is corrupt so cant be delete, i just need to install newsbin in another folder.
I did however follow your suggestion about the documents newsbin folder, after i deleted that it didnt do a upgrade anymore.
But guess what, seems they removed that the option in step 7 of installing newsbin. I no longer get the option to choose where to install, guess that FAQ is 100 years old and havent been updated.

Trying another newsreader which sucks since i have payed for Newsbin.

I would like to get a confirmation about this tho, that newsbin no longer give you the option to install somewhere else that the default folder.

It will if you clean up properly. I'll ask Dex to comment.

On a clean install, Newsbin will prompt you for the folder where you want it to be installed. By default it goes to your Windows Program Files folder.

To force a clean install, you can either uninstall Newsbin (if the uninstall will even work for you, sounds like your machine is messed up) or, wipe these Windows Registry keys:

HKCU\Software\DJI Intprises
HKLM\Software\DJI Intprises
