migrate from a hosed computer?

Hi! My dear old winXP box gave up the ghost: I copied ALL the files from the c-drive to an external for my NEW old xp-box.

Rather than manually reconfiguring NB, can I just install NB on the new box and then copy some config files from the old installation?

Files I might find at C\Program Files\NewsBin, or maybe at C\Documents and Settings\'user'\Application Data\Newsbin?

One possible hitch: I was (apparently) running NB 6.0.2.0, so maybe too much has changed since then:
In that case, might it work to d/l and install previous version like Version 6.00 or Version 6.10, which I see are available at http://www.newsbin.com/freetrial.php?
...and then transfer config files as above, and sail away with a grateful smile?

Thanks in advance :-)

Hmm, yeah, probably some challenges there. First off, here's the link to moving your installation over :

... but yeah you might have a couple of caveats because of the version. Also, what's very important is the OS you're moving to - if you're just reinstalling XP, then never mind, but if you're upgrading to win7,then you need to be aware of changes in permissions. Reading between the lines, it seems like XP, so you're probably fine just mirroring what you had.

You can basically bring over the lot, including spools, so apart from needing to register again, you won't need to redo much. If you don't care about running the latest, then yeah, just reinstalling the package closest to what you were running makes sense(I'm an upgrade fiend myself, but I also appreciate the 'if it ain't broke' mindset).

Thanks DThor!

Yeah, I'm an 'if it ain't broke" guy, mostly...

You said:
"just reinstalling the package closest to what you were running makes sense"

...so, given I was running 6.0.2.0, would that be Version 6.00 or Version 6.10?

cheers!
