Some issues

Hello,
I did not use Newsbin for a long time, yesterday I downloaded last stable version (6.34) (from a clean windows install) launched a big *.nzb. It downloaded correctly but when finishing it gave errors about renaming files. So I closed Newsbin and saw most files were still named with _yEnc.nb2 (even if completed), I didn't touch anything relaunched Newsbin and noticed it was redownloading all over again (the first 5 files was already overwritten) so I shut it off, moved files to protect them and downloaded again the first 5 and finally renamed myself files and repaired using quickpar.

Today I tried latest beta 6.40B7, launched a new big Nzb, it gave me a message it couldn't load it so I renamed the nzb (name was quite long) and it loaded fine but I'm not sure it's not a random problem (btw I actually save the nzb on hdd not open it from temp folder from browser).

Later I had to shut off pc. So I closed Newsbin properly but it gave me a Windows crash message error about Newsbin (ok it's beta).

Re-opened it some hours later, I saw only par2 files were left in download list (but download was far from being finished) looked in tab "failed files" saw all the files (the ones downloaded and the others not) and the message "duplicate ..." I managed to put them back in download list and now it seems ok

the beta seems to works better for me, I have a high end pc on windows 7 64bits and 64 bits Newsbin.
Thanks

it just did it again (latest beta), I closed (correctly) Newsbin with files from a 60gb nzb not finished to download.

Re opened some times later and no files were left in Downloading Files tab except par2. All in Failed files Tab with message "HFC:Duplicate Detector Match".

I then re-load the nzb in newsbin and it works and didn't overwrite already downloaded files (hopefully)

this happen without Newsbin crash

You might want to just disable the duplicate detector. It's in the advanced options. Sounds like your download is getting way ahead of the the unrar. You can also tell Newsbin to stall the download while the unrar is happening. It's an option in the performance options.

Thanks I'll give these options a try.

I'm not sure the unrar process start, the problem only comes when closing and re-opening Newsbin

The main problem is that files aren't clearing from the download list so, they're still there when you restart. That's why I'm suggesting the download is getting ahead of the ability to unrar. Might be wrong but, that's my working theory.

well this morning I powered computer, launched Newsbin and files were cleared from download list and also from failed files while I didn't change any option. I loaded the nzb again and everything fine again. Now I'm trying to reproduce it but it will just works fine lol... I don't know what to understand

I Noticed files still appear in download tab when I start Newsbin but for a very short time (2,3 seconds) and then they are moved to failed files (most of the time)

just giving some infos if it can help, I have to see options

You might want to just disable the duplicate detector.

Did you do this?

You should see why it's leaving the download list in either the logging or the failed lists. At this point I'm not clear why it's leaving the download list.

here's the exact message from log with option "Use duplicate detector" CHECKED when launching Newsbin :

"HFC:Duplicate Detector Match: filename.part001.rar" (filenames are quite long)

This is the only error message I got in log, and as you can see this is for first file of the set (but all files go to Failed tab).

Now I made extensive tests with "Use duplicate detector" UNCHECKED as you suggested and it works BUT, randomly it gives me a new problem : when starting Newsbin sometimes it will just ignore already completed files and start from scratch !! overwritting all completed.

Hopefully I made a backup of files I replace them manually

(by the way I'm still talking about version 6.40 Beta 7)

well I finished the download, Newsbin extracted the files correctly but didn't deleted the RAR and files stayed in Newsbin (Use duplicate detector was OFF). I tried on a different small download and this time all went ok : rar deleted, files no longer in Newsbin..

You may think I don't know what I do or that I do something wrong but I don't. Maybe there is something wrong with my computer but what can this be on a fresh win7 64? (I even deleted C:\Users\personnal\AppData\Local\Newsbin folder when I installed beta) or maybe with my Usenet provider but I'm really not sure.

Also I noticed :
-Unpar displayed some crazy percentages like "270 % completed" when extracting (but worked ok).
-At some point before while testing and messing up with "Use duplicate detector" it just deleted half of the files (hopefully backuped elswhere)

thanks for your reading

not had any problem since that specific download, so I think it was just this one hard to handle for Newsbin

I did re-work things to defer the signature generator till after the unrar. That should prevent a restart from sending the set to the failed list.

nice :)

I noticed something else : when you start Newsbin with files in it you already begun to download before, they are all on pauses for a few seconds.

But this never happened with the download I had problem with (I checked again to be sure) so I think it's was part of the problem

thanks
