memory high usage while unpar

Postby henk156 » Tue Jul 31, 2012 4:37 am

Hi, i have 16 GB RAM installed. Useally i was able to watch video while downloading and unpar at the same time.
But Newsbin is taking up all of the memory and my video sometimes freezes.

Is there something that i can do about this?

Greetings , Henk

I'm assuming you mean unrar? If you are doing a par *repair*, that is pretty disk and cpu intensive, while an unrar is pretty much IO bound. If you're running a recent release there is a performance section in the options you may want to play with - it can help dial back concurrent operations if you're running a slower machine.

Something else is going on with the memory, I can't imagine newsbin using that up on it's own unless you're pushing things far too hard. I mean, crazy hard. Quade does regular torture tests. If you're convinced newsbin is gobbling up more than 10G then maybe give some details about what you're doing.

How do you know it's taking up all of your memory? Video freezing during unrar/repair sounds more like a disk IO issue than memory.
