What's the trick to closing the search window?

Im using Newsbin Pro 6.34. I'm not sure why, but the Search tab doesn't have the ability to be closed. It's the only tab I have that doesn't have an X in it to be able to close it. I don't ever use this feature, so I would prefer to not have it open at all if possible. Is this something that broke or was it always like this?
