"Don't Pause PAR Files" & "Aggressive Assembly"?

Postby ppan » Wed May 16, 2012 3:42 pm

When should I check/use "Don't Pause PAR Files" & "Aggressive Assembly Mode" (in Autopar Options) ?

The bottom line is, unless you have a reason to otherwise, leave things at their default.

Aggressive Assembly is explained in the options: essentially if you have a reasonably reliable server and you don't want posts to 'wait' for a potentially in-progress posting, just download the pars and 'repair' the incomplete post if there's enough pars. This is the sort of thing you leave off, just enable it if you hate waiting and you don't care if the odd(or more, depending on the server) post doesn't work due to incompletes. It's for the impatient who won't blow a gasket if a file doesn't have enough chunks and they've downloaded most of it for nothing(like me).

I can't find any setting that says 'Don't Pause Par Files'. Where are you seeing that?

[EDIT] nm, I'm running an internal and that second option is missing...

So I guess that the 'Don't Pause Par Files' setting will be removed in v.6.40 final (I am using B1)?

For the aggressive mode, will it first download all the currently available rars before trying to repair with the pars (if needed), or will it only download enough rars to be able to repair with available pars?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The option will be there, it's actually a renaming of an older one that was a little confusing. The option is missing from my cut by mistake.

Aggressive behaves just the same as normal, except once it runs out of chunks to download, it hasn't downloaded pars yet, but the post isn't complete, instead of behaving like normal it will snag pars right away assuming there's enough to fix it. Normally newsbin assumes there might be a problem on the server and will retry the missing chunks later. Also, it might be in the process of being uploaded too, it waits for that too.
