Speed Limiter is broken in 6.31 and 6.32

This started for me with 6.31 and is still in 6.32. If I don't use the speed limiter, my download speed is usually between 29Mbps and 30Mbps (which is the speed of my cable connection). Pre-6.31 versions I had my Speed Limiter in Options/Network set to 20Mbps and that worked great. My downloads would usually hover around that speed.

However since 6.31 and now 6.32, If I turn on the Speed Limiter, my download speed ranges from 7Mbps to 15Mbps. It fluctuates every couple of seconds. One second it will be at 8Mbps, then the next at 12Mpbs. Before with the Speed Limiter turned on and set to 20Mpbs, it would always stay around that speed.

If I go into Options and change the Speed Limiter to 40Mbps, then I can get it closer to 20Mpbs when I turn it on but it still fluctuates over a wide range of speed.

If I turn it off, then NewsBin runs at my full cable speed (30 Mbps).

Something is broken in the newer version when it comes to Speed Limiter. I have been a registered user forever and I always use Speed Limiter but I have never seen it behave this way before.

I'll have to check it out.

How many connections to the server do you use? I'd suggest cutting back the connections to get a natural limiter affect.

I use 20 with SSL. But I never had this trouble before v6.31/v6.32. I have been using 20 connections with SSL with Speed Limiter turned on for years.

Yeah, one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake.

I'm not saying the limiter is working, I'm saying it's pointless to run 20 connection AND to run the limiter at the same time. The limiter works harder, your PC works harder and the throughput is the same. I'd cut it back to 10 connections and see what happens. If your setup is like mine, even 10 connection will give you full speed so, you might want to even cut it back more. If 4 connections gives you the download speed you're looking for, the limiter not working doesn't matter does it?

A benefit of running below the connection limit is, it tends to make downloads more reliable. Running at the limit means it doesn't take much to exceed the limit and get errors.

The limiter is not working. Like I have said it worked fine for me previous 6.31 and for all the years I have been using it. And I have always had SSL on with 20 connections.

I use the limiter to limit the download speed so I don't soak up all the bandwidth in the house when other people are on their systems.

I do not want to have the change the # of connections every-time I run want to download at a slower speed. If that is why I need to do, then what is the point of the speed limiter feature?

I changed my connections down to 10 for a speed test, and I still was downloading at full speed (30 Mbps) and taking up my whole household bandwidth. I also changed the # of connections to 4 and it was still running at the same speed (full 30Mbps).

the limiter not working doesn't matter does it?

It matters to me because it has always worked for me until the latest versions and it has always been a very useful feature when I needed it. If it doesn't work then why have that feature in the software?

I have never had any trouble with SSL and 20 connections as far as downloads not being reliable or getting errors.

You need to restart Newsbin for the lower connection counts to take affect. I'd set it to 4, restart Newsbin and try again.

I'm assuming the BW limiter is broken and was simply suggesting a work around. I'm skeptical you can get 30 Mbps with 4 connections, I suspect you simply didn't restart Newsbin. It's not impossible to get 30 with four but, it would be unusual. The connections windows will show you the number of active connections too.
