Newsbin 6 works differently to earlier versions such as v4 where each file only used one connection for downloading. Rather than each connection working on a different file it uses each connection (on multi-part files) to download different parts of the same file in parallel.

that makes sense now, so i can only download 1 item at a time theres no way to manipulate the connections to work on multiple files, thank you for your reply

Correct - but the current implementation does make optimum use of your bandwidth to minimise over-all download time. It is geared towards each connection always doing useful work.
One case where you may well see multiple files being downloaded in parallel is when you are doing small files and they have less parts than the number of connections. Since the Newsbin strategy is to keep each connection doing something Useful in such cases files will end up downloading in parallel.

The goal is to download as quickly as possible. Typically when I download something, I want to be able to sample it as quickly as possible so, I have all the worker downloaders working on the top file and when that file completes, the swarm moves to the next file and starts downloading it. Working that way, the first couple rars download quickly and I can then sample the contents.
There's no actual performance benefit to downloading all files in parallel. It's not like Torrent. With torrent having multiple simultaneous download of multiple files makes sense. With Usenet it doesn't because there are only N connections that all downloading has to take place through. If I have enough to sample and I want to sample something else right now. I move it to the top of the list and let a couple of its rars download to sample.
