BTGuard With Newsbin/Giganews - Not Working

I am using BTGuard. It has always worked in the past in conjunction with Newsbin/Giganews, but as of a couple of days ago, it stopped. Regardless of the version of BTGuard ((PPTP or OpenVPN) I use, no go.
I am currently using Newsbin version 6.21: 00 FD E8 C3 46 2C.
The Critical Error message I am receiving is: [07:57:04] ERROR InterSocket - Error: Connection Failed, Host: news.giganews.com Error Code: 10060 A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You have to tell them to let Newsbin out onto the net.
Microsoft security essentials is both pretty good and free. If you can't figure out how to let permit Newbin out. You could remove BTGuard and use security essentials instead. You ought to be able to configure it to let Newsbin out though.

Thanks for the tip, Quade. I currently use Security Essentials and it has always been fine with Newsbin (and BTGuard off). I'll work on BTGuard to "let Newsbin out onto the net." (not even sure exactly what that means)
I am perplexed though, as to why the BTGuard/Newsbin combination would suddenly stopped working. Any thoughts on that, Quade?

Is it set to upgrade itself? People often have their software upgrade in the background so, the BTGuard today might not be the same BTGuard as a week ago.

The program was not set to upgrade itself, so I have since manually upgraded to version 6.30. I noticed during the set-up process that there are two different server address options (US vs Europe) for Newsbin.
My BTGuard was set to a European server, so I promptly changed Newsbin server address to the European address and restarted Newsbin. Still no go.

Quade was referring to BTGuard updating. That's the most common cause of 'everything was fine, suddenly it doesn't work and I didn't do anything'. Just remove it completely from the equation and see if problems go away.

Yes, I am using the latest version. I uninstalled and reinstalled to ensure so. Still not working. I'm really perplexed.

I don't think you're getting it - get rid of btguard altogether. It's probably the latest version that's causing the problem, many antivirus and similar programs will interfere with applications that use ports it doesn't perceive as 'common'. There's a possibility you can configure it to coexist nicely, but for now just lose it and see if that fixes it. Same goes for any other antivirus or similar software you might have. It's these programs updating that can cause a problem.

Hey guys:
I am trying to delete BTGuard from my Windows 7 and it won't allow me to do it? I tried Network and Sharing Center, Change Adapter settings, highlighted BTGuard VPN (underneath the BTGuard icon it says Unavailable - device missing???), right clicked and hit delete and it asks are you sure you want to delete it? I hit yes, but, it doesn't delete it.
Any ideas would be gr8!!!
Thanks

I'd try:
Control Panel/Programs and Features
and see if it's listed there. You ought to be able to uninstall it from there.

Actually, it looks like it's pretty difficult to remove, there's lots of people trying to get rid of it and it's non-trivial. Keep googling around and see if you can find someone that succeeded. They've pissed off quite a few users, it seems.
I know you don't want to hear it, but if you can't, there's always a system reinstall...

It's not in Programs and Features. I can't find anything in Google. I type in "Remove BTGuard" and all I get it things that tell me how to install it!! Very frustrating. I'll keep looking and post back. A system re-install is over the top just to get rid of it.
Thanks

Yeah, I thought it was something else. One trick I've used in the past it to rename the EXE and then reboot. I'd look in "Services" too and see if it's in there. If it is, you can disable it.
I have to say after reading about it, it should have no impact on Newsbin. Newsbin isn't a torrent client so, it shouldn't be going through BTGuard.
