Using Newsbin with a VPN connection

In order to avoid throttling of the speed of my internet connection by my ISP while accessing nntp servers, I use a VPN connection while running Newsbin. I've used a number of different VPN services, including VyprVPN, and found that VPN connections frequently fail/disconnect. Such failures/disconnections result in Newsbin reconnecting to news servers using a non-VPN connection.

What can I do to force Newsbin to use only a VPN connection? Andif a VPN connection can't be used, prevent Newsbin from reconnecting using a non-VPN connection?

There is no way for Newsbin to do this. It doesn't know anything about VPN's. That's all happening below the level of where Newsbin works. You'd have to set your PC so, it only works in VPN mode. Perhaps by removing the default route or setting the default route to be the VPN interface so, when the VPN drops out, all connectivity stops.

It's gets into some hairy networking stuff. Perhaps block direct connections to the news server at your router so, all connections to the news server fail that don't pass through the VPN? Yeah, that's probably how I'd do it. Filter direct connection attempts through the router so, only VPN's connections will work.
