Upgrading to new computer

Postby bruce73 » Sat Nov 05, 2011 9:41 am

At the present I have NB 6.20 B3 installed on my desktop (XP). I'm getting a new Win 7/64 machine to replace it. So, after I install NB on the new machine, if I replace the Data folder (with all its subfolders) with the one from the XP machine, I can just pick up where I left off, correct? Anything else I need to do?

http://help.newsbin.com/index.php/V600- ... r_computer

covers it... However, a super big issue for you moving from XP to Win7 is permissions. Prior to Vista, typically you'd stuff all sorts of config files in the Newsbin installation directory, well, you shouldn't/can't do that now, you'll have grief with write permissions. So, make sure on your new system you have someplace 'legit' for the 'data' folder. Personally, I like to do a fresh install and have all the default locations set for me, then I double click on my old nbi file and change over the data location to the new one. Your spools etc. can come over from the old system.
