Astraweb Header compression?

Postby syztemlord » Tue Sep 13, 2011 5:50 am

I've just upgraded to v6 1019 and I use Astraweb as my server. I'm trying to download headers from a group but it keeps stalling unless I check "Disable XFeatures". I thought this worked with Astraweb?

Any ideas why?

Works here. Which server and port are you using?

I'm on the Euro server port 119.

Hmm, I'm not sure, not using that one. AFAIK, it should work. Perhaps someone else can chime in...

Maybe an antivirus update got in the way? Try disabling for a test?

Well, why aren't you using their SSL server?
That should be the first thing to try since AstraWeb offers this on all their accounts, long before posting here. If it still have issues it's real, if not something on your machine or on the internet is doing "bad things" to the traffic (TM). Their EU farm via SSL is ssl-eu.astraweb.com with the default SSL port (563).

I don't get headers from AstraWeb so I can't comment if it works via SSL or not, but if you still have issues when running via SSL someone will probably be interested.

Header compression isn't magic. You have to get come data through for it to work though. I've gotten some high speeds from Astra, 8 times more than my line speed. In fact Astra was the first to have header compression of all the servers. All of their servers should have it. I like SSL but, I expect it's slower than not using SSL simply from the extra work of using it.
