Hi,
I have a problem. When I start downloading headers from a group, NB starts fine, but after 10-15 seconds the downloads stops and I get these messages:
[12:36:34] ERROR Socket - Error: WSARecv Socket Error Code: 10060Et forsøg på at oprette forbindelse mislykkedes, fordi den part, der havde oprettet forbindelse, ikke svarede korrekt efter en
[12:36:34] ERROR NNTPSocket - Server:news.giganews.com NNTPServer: Timeout - Waiting for Server to send Data: Socket - Read or Write Timeout
[12:36:34] ERROR NNTPSocket - SendCommand Worker - Server:news.giganews.comSendCommand - failed to Read Response From server: Socket - Read or Write Timeout
[12:36:34] ERROR NNTPSocket - Socket HandleError - Server:news.giganews.com SendCommand - Server Disabled Service on connection:
What does that mean? I am NOT a PC geek/nerd, so I dont understand a thing of it.
If I download a nzb file and download the content it works without any problems whatsoover.
Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you're not using SSL.
In the server options change the "port" to 80 then restart Newsbin.
If you're using SSL, change the SSL port to 443 and then restart Newsbin.
See if it changes your symptoms. I think something on your PC is killing the connection.

I'm having a similar problem. First let me say I've been using Newsbin Pro since at least 2005. I've only experienced this problem since upgrading to version 6.
I only follow 4 newsgoups: a.b.multimedia, a.b.multimedia.scifi, a.b.tevee and a.b.drwho
I use SSL via port 563. I sometimes dl via VyprVPN and sometimes not. The problem occurs either way.
The headers for all of the newsgroups except a.b.multimedia dl fine; the way they always have. However, the headers for a.b.multimedia will (at some point) slow down and then stop completely. At some point later, they'll restart and finish. Though if there a larger than normal number of headers (such as a lot of spam posts), the process may stop and restart more than once.
I don't have any problem if I dl a file. It's just with the headers; at least thus far.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

How about following the suggestions I already made?
If you're using SSL, change the SSL port to 443 and then restart Newsbin
You might also want to try turning on "Background Update" in the options.

Err..., uh..., oops!
Actually, I did try the fix and it did seem to fix the problem. I just posted the message before I tried the fix rather than afterward. In other words, I acted without thinking. Sorry 'bout dat.
The fix did seem to take care of the problem though. Thanks.

It seems that I spoke too soon. Tonight, it's stopping and starting again even with 443 set as the SSL port. I double-checked to make sure.
Do you have other suggestions?

Having the exact same problem as well. Runs for a while, then stops. I'll check the logs to see where it stops tonight.

viewtopic.php?f=43&t=28760I describe a technique for reducing the socket buffer sizes. How about trying that and see what happens?
Dex and I believe this is normally something external to Newsbin messing with the connection. This thing where the BW limiter stopping all net traffic is weird enough for me to consider alternatives though. I just downloaded 80 GB from my test server and 10 GB from astra. Not a single connection issue or error. That's the baseline. It's POSSIBLE to have perfect downloads. The only thing I'm not sure about is how to make your results the same as mine.
