6.0 side by side with 5.0?

I was thinking about installing v6 in a different folder and slowly migrating to and tinkering with it while still having access to v5.
It seems though like v6 uses the same registry key as v5?

Use a different NBI and different data folder and it should work just fine. Newsbin doesn't store too much in the registry.

6.0 forces an upgrade. No option to install in another location.

Make a copy of the 5.59 folder before you upgrade.

Huh? Took a guess, renamed the folder so it wouldn't find it. Still forces an upgrade.
Do I have to uninstall v5 first?

Stumbling through this....renaming the old data folder got around the upgrade.

Newsbin is installed somewhere in "Program Files". Use explorer to copy the 5.59 install folder. Then do the 6 upgrade. The old folder now contains 6, the copy still contains 5.59.
So, now you have both versions on the machine. At that point you can make a copy of the NBI file and the data folder, edit the NBI depending on what data folder you want it to use. Use two different shortcuts, one for 5.59 and one for 6. Each shortcut passes the proper NBI filename to Newsbin.

Got it working, thanks! Since 5.59 is frozen, it's in \Newsbin5. Future v6 installs can go into \Newsbin and the installer will be happy.
Created a \newsbin5 and \newsbin6 data folder, updated the .nbi in each folder to reference the appropriate one. Moved the V6 spool into \newsbin6 - since I'd already converted everything - now I have data to play with.
Created the two shortcuts to pass the desired .nbi on the command line.
