Strange behavior while downloading header list for a group

Postby daguenet » Sun Mar 06, 2011 4:04 pm

I add the group alt.binaries.movies and selected download all headers. It is downloading the list, I believe, but it reports 4,150,000/0 downloaded so far. I added another group and did the same thing and it reports a more normal 4,940,000/5,536,729.

Just thought you should know about this.

did you only select that group or did you use the update button from the groups toolbar?

I selected 5 groups, then right clicked and selected download all headers for the 5 groups. Three of them reported normally this on and one other both with over 20 Million headers so far are the only ones reporting 2x,xxx,xxx/0. Maybe it's just to many headers total for int to work. If it means anything I'm running windows 7 64.

All of a sudden both groups started reporting the number of headers that are to be downloaded. Right after the automatic update took place they both started reporting the number of headers, but it looks like they started over again; because they are both now in 100K range instead of the 20M range they were earlier.

Just to let you know this was still happening, but seemed to switch back and forth. I would list the headers download as xxxx/xxxxx for a while and then switch back to xxxx/0. I would notice the change after an auto update had ran.

Watch the messages in the Logging tab and see if you are getting connection errors before it goes back to 0. There was a bug but I thought it was fixed where, if the connection was dropped during a "download all headers" task, newsbin would forget where it was and start over. The workaround is to start the header download, let it get a few hundred thousand headers down, then kill the task and to a "download latest". Then it will remember where it left off if the connection is dropped again.

It's just cosmetic. I fixed it last night. When you try to add a duplicate header download, it was clearing the current progress but, not actually impacting the download.

Thanks

The download did finish finally and did not take any more time then any other group with 24 Million or so headers.
