NB 6.70RC2 b4599 IO Error

Postby nbwul62 » Sun May 01, 2016 4:42 am

Something new to me (not encountered with previous versions)

IO Error or so ??

When closing and relaunching Newsbin, files are downloaded perfectly.

Had this error three times now.

The only thing I remember is that once the .nzb-files are loaded:
1 NZB shows up as 1 liner in the top window without exclamation mark
the other nzb shows up with exclamation mark, I then double click on it
and select all files + ctrl e, to download them,

again, close NB and relaunch it and NB will start to download the remaining 'individual files'.
par/rar files have to be deleted manually.

Yeah, I have no idea. I'd check your security software logs.

I am not sure, the FileIOThread seems to be something that pops up once in a while.
when searching for: site:forums.newsbin.com FILEIOTHREAD
Anyway, will keep an eye on it.
Regretfully I didn't copy the error.

All file assembly from chunks happens in the fileiothread. It's just a message to me telling me where in the code is complaining.

Many of these messages are never supposed to be seen by people. They just show up when oddball things happen.

I am not so much worried about it, as I know that for me the 'fix' is to simply close and relaunch NB,
so it will continue and finalize the download. In the end one needs to manually delete some stuff though.
Anyway, I felt it was worth reporting.

Keep up the good work!

That's not a fix. You shouldn't ever see this. I never do. If you don't want to chase it down then it's fine but something is clearly broken.

I have a way, though I very hardly use it, as it is inconvenient and doesn't work with nzb files, to download files from the provider directly using their own browser. One needs to exactly know the filenames though and 'searching' isn't sophisticated, to say the least. Anyway, I remember when downloading bigger files in a queue, I am getting an error as well and need to wait (countdown) - as it seems the disk (what disk) can not keep up

"
All incoming traffic has been stopped temporarily as the disk can't
keep up with the incoming data. As soon as all data in memory has
been written to disk, transfer will continue normally.
"

Maybe (or probably) that is the cause...
Downloadspeed may be too high? (70MB/s, about 575Mbit/s, fiber)

I still thing it's your security software. This error might be a symptom but you shouldn't get an IO error just because of speed. If the download speed is too fast, Newsbin will simply eventually stall the download. It's much more likely that your security software is blocking writes to disk for certain files.

It's hard to judge. My download hard disk just failed this weekend and it started out as intermittent writing problems that looked like a software problem but event viewer showed me that the drive was having problems.

FWIW

I copied the error to clipboard, then into an text-editor

Notice the length of the 3rd line upto 770 characters.

Image

I am not sure that my security software is causing it, can't trace anything in the logfiles.
That said, many other downloads are going fine, i.e. if/if it were the security software,
it would cause errors on the other downloads as well.
Also, after the error (screenshot), I checked the folder.
There were some par and rar-files there and ... the .iso file.

I closed and relaunched Newsbin and it started to download the files it stopped downloading before.

Thereafter every par/rar file was deleted like it should.

Yeah, I agree, it is something verrrry vague :-)

As said, it is FWIW only.
If it is all to mysterious to you and you can't do anything with it, so be it, forget it. no problem.

This isn't true. Security software is all about content so one file can be fine and another not.

At this point I'm going to chalk it up to a mystery and hope more details present themselves eventually.
