6.60B13 Not Logging Anything

A few days ago I upgraded from 6.5x to 6.60B13 Build 4012

I let it install itself using the defaults and retaining my existing settings (as I normally do whenever I upgrade)

Today I noticed that it isn't showing anything in the logging tab - everything else seems to be working normally and it downloads both posts and headers correctly, but NOTHING appears in the Logging tab. Previously I would have two or three thousand entries in the logging tab for just about anything I had it do.

This isn't a big problem for me, especially since most of the log entries didn't tell me much that I understood - but the logging entries were handy when they helped me identify what was going on, especially posts that had been DMCA'ed and not worth spending much time on.

Aha, it just did log SOMETHING.

I just had the Critical Error Message box pop up saying
[01:44:25] ERROR Server:news.xlned.com Illegal Group state Record ID's invalid: This group is Empty

and the identical entry appears in the Logging tab.

It seems that 6.60B13 does log "Critical Error Messages" but doesn't seem to log anything else.

You can change the log level in the advanced options tab. I'd look there.

If I found what you suggested, Options -> Settings -> Advanced -> Status Tab Logging then I have choices of Normal, Verbose, and Debug So I might try Verbose for a while,

BUT before I even got to make a change, I encountered some really weird logging behavior. I started Newsbin so that I could look for this "advanced options tab" and it instantly began showing thousands (in excess of 3,800) of log entries that look like

The weird part about this is that Newsbin isn't downloading anything -- it had nothing in the Downloading Files tab when I shut it down last night and I haven't told it to download anything today, I simply started the program. I had not made any changes to the settings yet.

It's importing headers into the header database. Sounds like you might have a corrupt group or two.

If you see a number in parens on the status bar near the cache line, that's a counts of blocks of headers to be imported.
