Why does it take so much longer now to spool headers?

Why does the newer versions of newsbin take so much longer to spool the downloaded headers into the groups before they can be viewed? newsbin used to spool an 8-10 million post group in under a half an hour easily. Now it takes hours. This is the same for all groups. I could download 10-20 groups, all headers, and they would all be fully spooled and ready for viewing in an hour or two. Now it takes all day or night. What has changed to make it take so much longer?

EDIT: I've been reading around and it seems it's due to how version 6 handles the headers as opposed to version 5.

Is there an earlier version of version 6 that handles the headers like version 5?

i swear I didn't have these slow header processing issues with earlier versions of version 6.

I'm running 6.50 now and the downloaded headers are spooling along very quickly now. I don't know what has changed in the recent builds, but it takes all night now to spool headers into a handful of groups and 6.50 takes about 15 minutes. I don't call this progress.

I can do 250 groups in probably 10-15 minutes beginning to end.

Tell me about your PC and the disk drive the headers live on.

I'm not denying an issue. I'm just not sure where it might be.

Windows 7 32-bit. 4Gb ram. Intel quad-core processor. 1TB HDD.

I just processed 30 groups in about 20 minutes with version 6.50 this afternoon. I tried the same groups last night with the latest version and it took most of the night. Both times I downloaded all headers.This has been ongoing in recent builds.

You're not doing a "Download all Headers" on a regular basis are you? Typically you do that once, then just let Newsbin download just the headers for the group.
