Speed Limiter not setting correct limits

Postby boblinds » Wed Sep 03, 2014 6:11 pm

I'm running 6.53 b.3311, accessing newshosting with 30 connections, and using Cox Cable's 100Mbps DL speed.

When speed limiter is turned off, I get a virtually sustained 100Mbps or higher transmission. However, when I activate Speed Limiter, the speed drops to 50Mbps or less, (fluctuating constantly) even though I've set the limit to 70Mbps or higher. (It's limited at 90Mbps at the moment, yet my DL speed is under 40Mbps.)

When I turn off the limiter, DL speed quickly goes up above 100 Mbps (108 Mbps at the moment.)

Did this ever get resolved? I am having the exact same issue running with Newsbin Pro version 6.53 build 3311 (x64).

Are you using a bunch of connections?

The speed limiter is flaky. The more connections you use, the flakier it gets. If you're going to limit speed, I suggest reducing connections counts first. Then limit it if you still can't get it slow enough.

Speed limiting with lots of connections, is like driving with one foot on the gas and one on the brake. The connections are saying "go" while the limiter is saying "stop".

Yes, 30 connections across three servers (10 each). But the main point I believe is that until recently, it worked correctly. I have been using the same connection settings for years.

I looked at the limiter in 6.60 and 6.54. I tweaked it some. Still, even with the changes the more connections you have the more spiky the data rate.

You can try again in 6.55. 6.60, I increased the limit to 200 mbps too. I was only able to test up to about 140 though.

Is 6.55 or 6.60 available?

6.55 is sampling on the IRC channel. Should go public beta pretty soon.
