ERROR - CNNTPWorkerServer - internal crash

Postby rlinden12 » Sun Mar 31, 2013 4:30 am

Hi...

As I was downloading some files off the Usenet, I noticed that the speed dropped to zero - mid stream on a file. Browser access was unaffected so the problem lay purely withing Newzbin (Pro version 6.42, 64 bit).

I received the "ERROR - CNNTPWorkerServer - internal crash" message which repeats every minute.

All access to Newsbin was extremely (!!) slow (e.g. accessing any menu item, etc.)

I have re-installed Newsbin - over the top of the existing installation - retaining my settings (I don't want to lose my groups status) but the error still comes up.

I have checked my system for infections - using both Kaspersky and Malwarebytes - no issues found.

Any suggestions?

Rob

Completely disable kapersky, the other thing and any other 3rd party programs that get between you and the internet and try to reproduce. Odds are one of those are 'net nannying' newsbin to death. Installing over top is perfectly fine, btw, and it's almost never necessary to re-setup newsbin to solve issues like this. This is classic antivirus interference, so let's establish that first. Also, if your destination drive is external or network based, that could be related, too.

Hi DThor...

Disabled Kasperski including (shudder!) the firewall, started Newsbin and it again connected to Giganews and started to transfer data. After a few seconds it again stopped. Same errors... Note however that I've been using Kasperski for a year with Newsbin with never a problem before tonight.... Note also that the program stopped mid download...

I note that any function access (changing the view to look at logs or downloaded files or opening the servers window) takes a long(!) time - sometimes as much as 30 seconds. It seems to me that the program is stuck in a loop...

Looking at the process viewer in task manager Newsbin is constantly using around 15% of my processor power while it is not downloading or anything. That's a lot of power!

I've checked startup manager and no new programs were added.

Errors noted in Windows Admistrative events log

The WinRing0_1_2_0 service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

The program newsbinpro64.exe version 6.4.1.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

BTW...

Drives are internal. (SSD for C: (program files) E: (Raid array in Raid 5))

No other programs or filters in between...

Another note:

I think my system power supply is on its last legs. I have difficulty in starting my system and at one stage this evening, my entire system died! It took a half an hour to get it up and going again... The system shuts down immediately on start-up long before POST starts. Only repeated starts eventually succeeds...

This may(?) have something to do with it...

I'd address that first, yeah.

Hi...

Have replaced power supply and system is up and running again...

Still have same problem... Newzbin won't work... Forte Agent doesn't have any problems though... It looks to me that the issue lies within Newsbin itself...

I've also run the following command on the command prompt: "sc query WinRing0_1_2_0".

After running the command, I received the following output:

SERVICE_NAME: WinRing0_1_2_0
TYPE : 1 KERNEL_DRIVER
STATE : 4 RUNNING
(STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
CHECKPOINT : 0x0
WAIT_HINT : 0x0

So according to the above command, the service is running, even though the Event Viewer shows it didn't start and is not running. (????)

It looks like that is not the issue...

Hi dThor...

Solved the problem...

As I thought, the issue lay in Newsbin itself. Something must have gotten corrupted in there.

I uninstalled Newsbin (but retained settings, etc.) and reinstalled it again. It works perfectly again...

Thanks again for your help...

NP. Yeah, I suspect the PS caused corruption on the disk, it can be one of the more nastier things to go wrong on a computer. You may want to consider a clean system installation if more weirdness outside of newsbin crops up.

Will do...

Fortunately I have a partition backup from just after I installed the last time...
