Avoiding the frustrations

Postby Cruiseman70 » Thu Feb 07, 2013 6:28 pm

At the moment, I have a spare computer with v5.59 on it. I had tried going to v 6.4x and had nothing but problems ( on that machine), many were probably (not probably:)) were my own unfamiliarity with version 6.0 and above. I am tempted to try the upgrade again on that computer and see what happens. I have v 5.59 running on my main machine now and other than trying to find the folder name options in the Options menu, it has worked since fine since v5.59 was released.

I am thinking of trying v6.42 on my "test" machine to allow myself some time for learning. Are there any known downfalls for doing the upgrade and any easy learning tricks? Quade, Dex? Got any no fail suggestions?

Do a fresh install on the new machine. Copy the NBI over from the old machine. Verify that the paths in the NBI match the new machines disk layout (edit it with wordpad). Then double-click the NBI to import the settings from that NBI into Newsbin.

Restart Newsbin. Make sure the import settings are there. Check the download paths and set them to whatever you want.

At this point, I would say I'm probably at about 85% satisfaction/comfort with 6.42, now the one easy solution (I'm sure and just haven't stumbled across the correct method/manner of making this change). How do you rearrange the group list contents? I do not want it as a.b.1, a.b.2,a.b.3 etc. I want it a.b.4, a.b.2, a.b.5, a.b.3 etc. I can get the individual groups to move from one GOG to another, but can't seem to just move a single group up one or two places in the list.

I know, bitch , bitch , bitch...........no just stupidity/unfamiliarity..........

Making progress.

P.S. I've tried dragging and dropping like in 5.59, but it doesn't seem to work in 6.42

Can't. It's been on my todo list for awhile. I'm pretty close to having it working for 6.50.

You know, you can make topics and add the group to different topics to group them. I have my groups grouped, that's probably why I haven't gotten this working yet.

I do have two topics and the individual groups divided that way, but I like to have the groups sorted a certain way in the topics, so I would really appreciate it if you fixed that broken item. Other than that, I'm still so-so on v6.42, but am warming up to it. Still seems the header download is a little slower than 5.59, but the overall speed seems to be improved. Once I'm more comfortable with it. I'm pretty sure I will make it my main Newsbin version and add it to my new i7 3.4, 12 gb ram, 2 tb 7200 rpm machine. It screams pretty good too:)
