Porting headers from V5.x to V6.41

Postby bass » Mon Feb 04, 2013 6:43 pm

Hi All,

I just upgraded to V6.41 a few days ago, but when I tried to Import Version 5.x headers, after 2 days time spent on the process, none of the headers seem to have made it over to 6.41. All of my settings are the same, but when I try to show all posts nothing appears.

Now, I figured that as an alternative I could just try to download the headers again from scratch, but when I tried to do that,
I kept getting the "Write Records tossed an exception" error. My next step is to erase the SPOOL_V6 directory completely on the theory that trying to upgrade the headers from V5 somehow created corrupt files which caused the exceptions, but I figured that a) If this does not solve the problem maybe there is another known solution and b) even if this does solve the problem it is a good idea to document it in the forum. Incidentally, when I checked the files in the SPOOL_V6 directory, I did not see any .rv4 files at all, although there we .db3 files. I read an earlier reply to a post where Quade mentioned corruption of .rv4 files and that he was trying to get rid of them for V6.5, but I am still on V6.41, so I don't know how timely the posting was.

Thanks for any help,

Bass

Sounds like it might be a permissions problem. How about exiting Newsbin, right click the shortcut, select "Run as Administrator" then pick a group, right click "Download all Headers". If that works, you probably need to fix permissions.

The only version that might have an upgrade path to 6.X is 5.59 and to be honest, I'm not clear if the upgrade path works any more.

If I delete the SPOOL_V6 directory, i.e. just keep the settings and group listings, will Newsbin be able to recreate everything and hopefully/maybe stop tossing exceptions? I don't have a problem with "losing" the existing records from the earlier version.
