Problems with 6.41 and 6.42

I feel guilty for waiting this long to report these problems, but I have tried just about every release, beta or official, after 6.40 and have had to to go back to 6.40 every time.

I am running Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit. For each release of 6.41 and 6.42, nbpro unexplainedly quits downloading after a few minutes. Curiously, the program then refuses to entirely close (although the UI appears to close). It won't even close after a "kill process" request in Process Explorer. Before reinstalling 6.40, I have had to reboot every time. When 6.40 is reinstalled, the downloads resume and go to completion.

Again, I apologize for waiting so long to report this!

It's something up with your PC then. More than likely something low level like your virus scanner or firewall. Something is locking newsbin down inside the windows kernel. That's why you can't kill it with task manager. There are detail level differences between 6.40 and newer versions but, essentially they work the same way. Virus scanners and firewall's though will treat them differently because they don't have the same checksum (looks like a new program to your security software).

Thanks. I am using Norton 360 on this PC. So, what can I do about it? Also, why would 6.41 and 6.42 suddenly stop downloading? They still respond to other commands so they do not seem to have crashed; just quit downloading.

Odds are it's all related back to Norton. For me anything with 'suite' or 360 on the title is pretty much a recipe for fail as far as system security goes, your first step is to get it out of the way. At the very least completely disable it and reboot your computer to see if that solves it, but many of these intrusive products don't make it that easy, you may need to totally delete it to shut it up. Of course in a perfect world you could configure it to ignore newsbin and whatever port you're using, again that can be a challenge with some of these things.

There's no point trying to troubleshoot multiple issues all at once, 'Norton' was the giveaway, it will be the primary issue.
