one directory for each downloaded post??? HELP!

Postby pwnoren » Wed Jan 02, 2013 6:14 pm

Hi people,

I have updated to v 6.41RC1, Build 2122 Swedish version. I try to download similar files into ONE folder like in the older version I was using (6.21) before. The alternatives in the menues are no longer the same, but now in 6.41 I can see all posts on Giganews which is nice. In 6.21 I always choose Download to Subject folder and this got me a general folder name where ALL files were found after finish.

My problem is that I cannot get all the beloning musical tracks into one folder anymore. I have set up the download folder as I:\Usenet\$(SUBJECT) but this mostly leads to ONE folder for EACH track except the par files that ends up in the same folder. This is the case both when I download by CTRL+E or 'Download to folder named after subject'. Surely the $(Subject) cannot include individual track names?? The result certainly implies it. Plus the result is different for each set of posted files I select, sometimes I get one folder for each posted item, sometimes I get 3-4 folders for all of them. I guess it depends on the posters' settings (in Yenc Powerpost you set for instance 'Subject line information - $F' where F is file name). I would like to have a common folder for all the files like I had in 6.21.

In 6.21 I always selected 'Download to folder named after subject' and then got a proposal of the new download folder name, so I could shorten it to my own satisfaction. This was excellent. Why can't we have that still?

There is also the option 'Download to a new folder' but this forces me to write a new folder name each time I queue something. That is not practical when you download perhaps 50 sets of files per day. So please tell me anyone: what I can do to get each selected download into one common folder? I don't want to use time or date or poster name or such, I want the folder name to reflect what is in it! (I havent tested the nzb folder naming yet, because I want to solve the case first when there is no nzb present).

It is such a fundamental thing so I am very frustrated not to be able to make it work. I've had Newsbin for years and should understand it well. Bah!!! Am I really that stupid to not be able to fix such a simple thing? It worked well in 6.21!

Happy New Year Everyone!!! **smiley**

This is changing in 6.42 and will be configurable. For some downloads, per download subject makes sense, for some using the first subject makes sense.

Mine did this too by choosing ($subject) I got individual folders for files included in the same nzb. they were empty directories. Quite annoying.

The only efficient way to use newsbin now is to name one download path, then you must group everything into a folder once it downloads, then you can continue with the next nzb. If you load more than one nzb for download, it all gets scattered in the same download path.

When can we go back to 'Download to folder named after subject' and then got a proposal of the new download folder name, so I could shorten it to my own satisfaction. This was excellent. Why can't we have that still?

If you are using NZB downloads then you probably want a folder named after the NZB and this is one of the options you can select.

ok, If I can make a wish for 6.42? Then please make it as it was in 6.21.

Thanks guys for your replies. I hate it when it all lands in one cluttered folder so I guess I will download to a new folder for each item while waiting for the upgrade to 6.42. I can't go back to 6.21 as I am downloading the old posts at +1500 days at Giganews. The nzb will take care of itself I assume if I name the nzb folder I:\Usenet\$(nzb)

i used to use that option a lot for image downloads, untill i upgraded to 6.41,when i tried it recently,i was quite annoyed to find over 200 folders each containing 1 image,i hope they fix that for the next upgrade.

I guess I'm not the only one, it's part of the 6.41 update. I've not had many complaints about Newsbin since having it for the last few months (I migrated from Newsleecher) & and appreciate it's being here but this is extremely annoying.
